Commercial Floor Coatings – Which One Should You Use?

Depending on the type of activities that takes place in your warehouse or industry plant, it’s important that you choose the right floor polyurea which will actively protect the floor and support your business activities.

In most cases the benefits of using these commercial floor coatings are appearance of clean floors in the workplace, which exudes an aura of professionalism as well as invites confidence to both the clients and the workers of that industry. Coatings can also enhances the texture and the colors of the floor as well as add a hint of glimmer on the floor surface making it appear attractive.

Commercial coating also helps preserve and protect concrete from chipping, staining, corrosive chemicals spills and UV radiation. These coatings ensure durability of the floor, which is essential in industries with corrosive chemicals. Coatings can also resist tons of pressure applied on them without cracking.

Coatings are also relatively easy to clean, and rarely stain, unlike concrete, which may absorb chemical spills causing them to stain. Applying a industrial coating is also cost effective as its durability leads to the avoidance of future costs of repair.

Most industrial floor coatings are made from epoxies, hybrid polymers, asphalt, ceramics etc. Epoxy coatings are the most common floor coatings in use by many industrial and domestic environments and are used to cover hard surfaces like concrete. The coating is made using a combination of plastic resins that generate a liquid mixture. This mixture is then applied evenly on the hardwood or concrete floor and dries up to form a hard plastic coating.

Asphalt coatings are a cheaper alternative for industrial floors compared to the hybrid polymers and the epoxy coating, they are relatively easy to install and are beneficial if there are vehicles involved, typically found in the warehouses and factories.

Ceramic floor coatings have more specific applications and have been used primarily where the floor is exposed to high temperatures in industries like smelting and industrial furnaces.

Most business facilities usually have a concrete floor finishing, however, as durable as the concrete finishing may seem, its performance and durability may disappoint from time to time. Thankfully a new breed of industrial floor coatings called hybrid polymers or “green polyurethane” can make up for these disappointing flaws in concrete floor finishing.

Furthermore, not all industrial coatings are safe for use, as some of these coatings contain very harmful chemicals called isocyanates, which have proven to be toxic to humans and cause symptoms like blurry vision, vomiting, headaches, and in some cases even cancer. Polyurethane floor coatings that have these harmful chemicals should be avoided at all costs.

Hybrid polymers like Green Polyurethane on the other hand stand out in all industrial floor coatings and have a wide range of uses. These commercial coatings are like epoxies, only stronger, more durable and don’t contain toxic isocyanates. They are also more beneficial compared to the epoxy coatings as they tend to form very hard coatings which are ideal for heavy equipment and machines that are used in warehouses and factories. Lastly, the fact that the hybrid polymer coatings are easy to install gives them an upper hand over other coatings.
